Interdisciplinary research project between the faculties of Business Administration and Computer Science at Hochschule Darmstadt
The project's scope covers research in the field of Business Information by applying works from Computer Science on to open business issues.
Current insights and developments in Semantic Web technologies are combined with methods from Artificial Intelligence.
Semantic Web: Next generation's web
Tim Berners-Lee, father of the World Wide Web, sees the Semantic Web as the next vital step in turning the WWW into a world-wide information platform.
The focus is set on semantic data which can be processed by electronic agents instead of content which can only be handled by human beings.
The task: e-Business Integration
Nowadays, e-Business is both vision and reality at the same time. For decades companies have been sharing data electronically.
Especially the popularity of the World Wide Web has helped e-Business to develop further.
Nevertheless: Integrating two businesses' e-Business still requires complex individual Software Development. Evaluating semantic information such as
business or process data via electronical agents is still a vision, even though knowledge about it is often already present in legacy models. However,
it exists mostly only isolated and in differing semi-structured form.
The goal
For enabling further integration support we develop a method for providing holistic and consistent enterprise models derived from isolated legacy business
knowledge through integration, analysis and logical processing by methods of Artificial Intelligence, in particual reasoning. The emerging integrated model
provides the basis for business-driven analysis in order to facilitate further e-Business integration.
